DBT #344 Home

Ahh... sometimes the feeling of home is one that just reaches inside and grabs the most sensitive part of our beings.  Sadly I know the feeling isn't universal, but lately I've been becoming an Ancestry.com contributor for the Schipper Family Tree; and all homes that I'm running into from my Dad's home, or memories of playing in the farm fields of Jimmy & Verna's house all bring back the warm and fuzzies of growing up in north eastern Wisconsin.  Here's just a few pictures that have been floating around:

Fine time to dwell on the positives and not that if I went back to the homesteads that I would find complete farm fields of Trump supporters up in that area.  Let's shelve that temporarily and rejoice that home is where we can connect as people who love and support their neighbors.  I'm hoping these songs give you the same jolt of love to a point where it wins over hate.

1) The Heart Calls You Home - Runaway

Before Johnsmith lost the space between John and Smith, he was playing in the LaCrosse area with a friend Dan Sebranek as Runaway.  While really didn't know it at the time, we were watching to youngsters who would have some incredible staying power.  John went on to win Kerrville New Folk and toured globally while Dan hung near home base creating a legendary status of being part of the String Ties bluegrass band.  This song is from the Great River Folk Fest 25th Anniversary CD of live cuts, and yes I can share it from two spots, because I thought the song deserved a spot in YouTube's database; and both Dan and John said it was ok.

2) Blue Boat Home - Peter Mayer

Ok if I get a chance to add my favorite earth hymn to a playlist, I do.  Yes I had a chance to record him recently playing this song.

3) I'm Going Home - Nikki Morgan

Of course if you follow the blog you know I met Nikki first at FARM and then had a chance to run into her at Mile of Music; boy I love her soul and I'm looking forward to more songs from that album she told me about being released.  I believe this song will be on it; and it FOLK Rocks...

Of course lucky me I picked a song that today had a new video uploaded of her singing it solo!

4) Glasgow (No Place Like Home) - Jessie Buckley

Well it's kind of like Peter Mayer, if Jessie comes up as possible to add to a playlist; I don't hesitate.  Of course than I relive the movie, and I would never give up this vinyl either.

5) Please Call Home - The Allman Brothers Band -

Of course this song was first Idlewild South then on his solo record, and recently I brought in a few songs from their 2000 release "Peakin' at the Beacon" because it's the 25th Anniversary.  This is great version and the last album put out with Dickey Betts with the band.

6) Green Green Grass of Home - Joan Baez

Yes I recently bought her album "David" and this classic song was covered with her Nashville studio boys; but when you can an old video like this from the Smother's Brothers no less; it's a no brainer to share the live cut.  What a beautiful woman and that voice; while it isn't one that I warmed to originally.

7) Home - Emily Earle

Recently I was going through my cds finding which ones weren't in Discogs.  Yes I've taken on the task to add them to the library slowly.  It's not a fast thing if you want to do it the right way, but I did get this little Demo cd I got from Emily Earle when she played the Bluff View back in 2017

Of course, I love that I could find a video of the song or I would have had to add one of my own.  Ha, plus it has the same speeding story she told at the house concert.  Recently she and her husband Tom became parents, awe.

8) Harvest Home - Herb Pederson

Herb's name shows up everywhere in my old records, and now I have one of his in my library.  Here's the second song on the playlist that I needed to add to YouTube for you to listen to it.

9) Feels Like Home - Irene Kelley

One cd I bought based on just a guess that I would like it, and I did.

Live video sound is kind of crappy.....

.... so here's the studio sound:

10) Drive Back Home - Tophouse

I got this great "Campfires" album from my house concert friends Brenda & Mike.  Ok let's watch the boys live:

11) Somebody's Home - Mike Ward

A song about homeless people in a home playlist.  Yep

Oh Amazon boxes, inside is a surprise
Yeah Amazon boxes in every shape and size
Portland to Detroit to San Antoine
those Amazon boxes have become somebodyā€™s home

Here is Mike singing it solo.

12) The Telling Takes Me Home - Utah Phillips

The legend in my own mind.

Sweet home... here's the one click YouTube playlist.
