Reviews
In our Thursday edition, we've been highlighting recent releases. I have truly so much music to listen to that these reviews help me as much as I hope they help you. I actually slow down and listen to the songs, and in the Morningbird review I set out the principals I've been using to pick the release.
1) Is it on Bandcamp? I love the way they allow you to listen to a whole song, but encourage buying music. While I never have gotten the notice for over listening without paying, I believe most artist use their default of letting you listen to the song three times before asking you to buy it. I buy a lot of music on Bandcamp, here's the link to my fan page. https://bandcamp.com/davideschipper This likely will mean I'll never review Beyonce or Taylor Swift in my blog, but they are welcome to appear in my playlists.
2) Have I been listening to it? Yes with so much music some songs within releases that I've bought in the last year have not been played yet. Sad, but I would still buy them again. Many times I'm buying for the gift back to the artist for all the times they've been robbed through streaming.
3) Do I feel a connection to the artist? Yep I'm not in this blog to pick the biggest names unless they are new to me. While it is not required, I have become digital friends with many of the artists in the list. That might make me biased a little; but who doesn't have a little bias in their life, mine is just set in the right place.
