DBT #356 Sweet
Ok for Saturday April 5th 2025 playlist, I could get really bummed about losing about $100k in my 401k because of the absolutely ridiculous economic policies coming out of Washington; instead I needed to label this year's batch of maple syrup and why not an uplifting playlist that sure to give that sugary smile. SWEET right?
1) My Sweet Lord - George Harrison
Hey there will be a few no brainers in the list.
2) Sweet Alina - Alfonso Velez
While Alfonso has a great back catalog selection on Bandcamp, this favorite is not on there so now here's an audio fan video I posted. If he wants me to take it down, I will.
3) I'm Sweet - Nikki Morgan
She has been a sweet follow since I met her at FARM and then connected with her again at Mile of Music. As I commented on this video two years ago, I would have never thought of the inspiration she said that the song came from. Yep she's in Bandcamp, buy her stuff and throw a few bucks her way.
But do listen to this wonderful video, hey it's short take the time. She can sit by my campfire and sing anytime.
4) Sweet ā
Honey ā
Buckiin' - Beyonce
Yes... why I love these playlists because it pushes me to spice a few up with Beyonce's Grammy winning record.
5) Cold Blue Steel And Sweet Fire - Joni Mitchell
Right a legend following another legend, from her 1972 release that followed Blue. (right? damn tough album to follow) Wow, while there is an typical audio video from the album, this sweet live video is both sultry and show her prowess of the open tuning.
6) Oh My Sweet Carolina - Red Molly
Three ladies and followed by a trio of ladies.
7) Sweet Dreams - Emmylou Harris
Ok maybe this playlist is so sweet because it's packed with women who I love to listen to sing.
8) Sweet Bye and Bye Featuring Jim Watson - Hope Nunnery
Hope brings a real throwback sound to this hymn.
9) Sweet Jane - Cowboy Junkies
Oh my, I love that this song was in the digital library to add, Margo is again another sultry singer.
10) Sweet Love - Kate Wolf
Listening to this angel sing gives me goosebumps. I was so surprised when an elderly man (yes someone older than me) stopped me at church and asked if I had ever heard of Kate Wolf. Well that was a shot from left field, of course I had to tell him we saw her in LaCrosse at the Great River Folk Fest ages ago. He had just discovered her music. Great time to bring out the motto, "Good Music has NO Expiration Date" Kate's life was cut short, but she release a gold mine of material; go find some.
11) Sweet Pea - Amos Lee
The cover band I played in for ten years, Rose River, loved to cover this song. Yes I know it reminds you of a phone ad too.
12) Sweet As Sweet Comes - Robbie Fulks
I'm going to get a chance to see Robbie again at Moccasin Creek Festival in Jun 2025, that was where I bought the vinyl that this song was on a few years back. You can buy it here.
13) Sweet Potato Pie - James Taylor
Sure you thought it would be Sweet Baby James, hang in there. You can never have too much James in your life and I just bought "Never Die Young" in August of 2024.
14) Sweet Baby James - Steep Canyon Rangers
See that wasn't a long wait?
Live from Merle Fest.
15) My Sweet Wyoming Home - Bill Staines
Yep closing the playlist out with a few more legends.
16) Those Sweet Words - Norah Jones
Two years from her rookie release, this sweet song was released in 2004. Oh my I love the premise of this video, pick me off the floor if I'm ever in a room where Norah comes up to sing Karoke to one of her songs.
I know I know, you have so many other songs with Sweet in the title; so do I. This Sweet Sixteen songs were curated from over 150 in my digital library before I even searched Discogs. Yes like sap running next year, there will be a second volume of sweetness. Here's your one click YouTube Playlist.
