Edition #20 Let's play baseball (songs)
Baseball has been in my blood since my youth listening to likes of Ernie Banks, Bernie Williams, Ron Santo, and Fergie Jenkins on the radio. Yes MLB can takes its fair criticism for being slow, but there is a reason they call it a Pastime, it can really past the time while you're working outside, or putzing around the house. Plus can it write stories about itself, and sometimes talented songwriters take the stories and make them songs. I'm celebrating this music, and may you listen to it, in the background. Maybe outside working in the garden, maybe raking or doing a project. Baseball will be back but the music has never left us.
Listeners know I start each show with a Dylan song or cover. Yes the master wrote a song for Catfish with the Oakland A's. Of course the playlist is heavy Cub songs, but I have been a Cub fan for a long time now, and love Steve Goodman even before I knew he was a fan. (plus his ashes are buried under home plate in Wrigley Field.)
