DBT #366 Wine, It's Time
A friend Mike gifted me a press release album of Lynn Crossett "Autumn to August" and quickly I was drawn to his song "Could Have Been the Wine" and yes it was just after I posted the second volume on Beer, and I have done THREE volumes on Whiskey so baby it's fine time for some wine. Yes, I pause sometimes adding 16 songs to a playlist because it's more work to post, but I had 36 songs in my digital library without even doing a Discogs search. Btw, I'm truly enjoying Lynn's album, but quickly I changed my focus to this wonderful playlist.
1) Could've Been the Wine - Lynn Crossett
I have found Lynn on Bandcamp, but not this album yet. I have put many of his releases in my wish list, who knows maybe next BC Friday I'll feast on his whole collection. Until then, here it is on YouTube:
2) Aged Like Wine - Corb Lund covering Todd Snider
Right, I passed on putting Todd's song on this because I love Corb's album covering his friend's songs.
Ha... this isn't too much more than an audio video, but I felt compelled to share it.
3) Bottle of Wine - Tom Paxton, Ann Hills and Bob Gibson
Well you just have to add an old folk song written by Tom Paxton. Yep I bet you thought it was really a trad song, right? Love this trio album.
4) It Ain't in the Wine - Kate Wolf
Written by Lee Greenwood? Per the video it was I guess. A 1976 recording, sure to have this album show up in my 50th Anniversary mix next year. Love the old pictures of Kate in this video.
5) Daddy's Wine is Fine - Jerry LaCroix
Always loved Jerry in Edgar Winter's White Trash, and now I have two of his vinyl after the band broke up. This song is one of my favorites and I don't find it out in YouTube to share, so now I'm in the habit of uploading the vinyl import for you to enjoy. Yes it's out there in the Discogs secondary market, buy a piece of wonderful history.
6) Two More Bottles of Wine - Emmylou Harris
Oh my Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town is one of my all time favorite Emmylou album, with Leaving Louisiana, One Paper Kid, Green Rolling Hills and this song just as a few. Love the live cut, and the video's description:
Two More Bottles of Wine" is a country song written by Americana, Blues, and Country Rock great Delbert McClinton. It was recorded by Emmylou Harris in 1978 and quickly became a hit topping the U.S. Country Single Charts. Look at how sexy Emmylou is in this footage! She provokes the utter passion of the daughter of the devil that Don Henley speaks of in The Eagles song, "One of These Nights."
7) Cheap Wine - Charlie Parr
Charlie is such a great storyteller, and here he is at his finest, solo. The studio version in my playlist came from a vinyl not on his Bandcamp page.
8) Lonesome and the Wine - Mary Cutrufello
A Twin Cities gem of a musician.
9) Water to Wine - Nikki Morgan
I'm a big fan of this woman since I first heard her at FARM, love this rocker song. Sometimes we're all just picking up the pieces
See I’m not looking for your answers, I’m not searching for your time
And if I needed your approval I’d probably would give you mine
I see you’re searching for a savior, well gon ahead and stand in line
Cause I’m still picking up the pieces to turn this water into wine
And if I needed your approval I’d probably would give you mine
I see you’re searching for a savior, well gon ahead and stand in line
Cause I’m still picking up the pieces to turn this water into wine
10) Poison & Wine - The Civil Wars
Right I miss new music from these two, you know if you can't tour with each other anymore; put your differences behind you and record together again. (plus more videos too... ha)
11) 4$ Bottle of Wine - Steep Canyon Rangers
I was buying many a bottle at $4.99 but either inflation or tastes have moved me to $7.99. I will always think of this group as Steve Martin's back up band.
12) Coffee & Wine - Chadwick Stokes
I bought this song back in 2012... one of my favorites.
And now it's coffee like it's fine wine, wine like it's water
Any time's a good time so go unlock your daughters
With his motorcycle friends, they're going off again
From the Black Sea all the way to Britain
All the way to Britain
13) The Last Drink of Wine - Sally Barris
Such a soft sad song, Sally's music was inherited in a bin of CDs score to the library.
14) Wine or the Weather - Tophouse
Tophouse's vinyl was a gift from a house concert angel. (You can tell I imported from vinyl because I misspelled the title as Wine OF the Weather... ha)
15) Like Fine Wine - Brenna Larson
I bought this album from Brenna website when I wanted to have her song "Buy More Shoes" for my second volume of Shoe songs and her whiskey song made it into the 2nd Volume of Whiskey songs. Here she is playing it live:
16) Wine with Dinner - Loudon Wainwright III
Yes he might have another famous white wine song too, but I picked this one since I recently bought the old vinyl and imported it.
