DBT #203 GRFF Songwriter Contest Day 1 Highlights

Yes we are mirroring the posts from the Great River Folk Fest Songwriter contest.  They will always be on Tuesday so watch for them.  I figured if I was going to spend my time working for them, let's give them the support of the blog too.  I will edit their post to include Bandcamp links, because you know me all too well.  Plus I have included the highlighted artists into our label library (I know it's getting pretty extensive list already).  A quick way to find all of the Contest post is to click here, which is basically the label.

We thought we would share our first submission as a tease to get everyone excited; and we ended up with enough high quality submissions that we wanted to share FOUR videos of great music submitted to the contest.

The very first video and song submitted blew us away from Pinkerton Raid from Durham NC.  Love the Beatles satire in the middle of the pictures.  It did have a unique English feel and the story behind the song in the YouTube description is a must to read.  Yes I did find the song on Bandcamp.

A past finalist Daniel Elixir put through his farmer hat into the mix for good luck, with this Bad Luck song.  Yes a reminder, if you didn't win; you can submit again.  We just ask you not to repeat any song that you've submitted in the past.  This is a pretty new song so it's not on his Bandcamp page.

Mark Rubin recognized that a bunch of judges from a folk festival might enjoy a political song; well we do and you should appreciate this great tune.  This again is a pretty new tune but Mark has an extensive Bandcamp collection of tunes.

Speaking of hippies... just toss a VW van into a video and we're suckers to share it; at least Fox and Bones gets first dibs.  Yes I did find it in Bandcamp too!
