DBT #214 GRFF Songwriter Contest Final Weekly Highlight

Yes, we did it again.  Last weekly highlight post has 12 songs for you to listen AND our weekly highlights have now included 36 people.  We're hoping to announce next week Tuesday which 12 of these artist move to round two; yes each has a One in Three chance.  Here we go clockwise from top left:

1) Indian River - Carpenter

Michael Carpenter from Boston MA brings us this great country tinged ballad of Indian River.  I would hope they employ him to advertise the area because I want to go there.  Plus it's in Bandcamp I might just buy it.

2) 8 Hours - Karyn Ann

From Portland OR, Karyn Ann brings you right into the story waking up in a strangers van; come listen to her story.  Karyn has also graced DBT blog a couple times, and while she is on Bandcamp this song isn't out there yet.

3) The Man Who Owns Little (Is Little Owned) - Nathan Taco

From Grand Rapids MI, Nathan Taco gives us a great acoustic rocker with a moral statement.

4) Mid-Sized City - Couldn't be Happiers

With a name like Couldn't Be Happiers you might expect a upbeat tune that gives Mid-sized cities their due.  Their home base is in Winston Salem, NC.  YES, it's in Bandcamp too:

5) We Are Children - Flagship Romance

Yes Flagship Romance submitted a song they played at the Kerrville New Folk contest from 2022 (it's ok we love them), and it's a great song.  Keep in mind the video will start at their song and go on for another hour and a half.  It won't be put in the playlist for that reason, but here you go.  Yes they are from a city call Truth or Consequences, NM population 6,052... I googled it.  They are in Bandcamp but not this song.

6) Virginia Creeper - Kayla Z

From Chippewa Falls WI, Kayla Zoltak winds the vegetation though a relationship in a well crafted song.

7) Two Way Street - Annie Bacon

From Ann Arbor MI, Annie Bacon sent us some great songs including this view on love and again it's got a very warm video too.  Annie has a prolific Bandcamp page I'll be checking out, and her is the single of the song.

8) Weed Wacked - Marty Miles

Marty Miles interrupted his vacation a couple years ago to record this new song, and we loved it.  His home base is in South Bend IN

9) Better Days - Judson Hair

We had met Judson last year in the songwriter contest and was glad to see him submit again; we love his voice and writing style.  This song has a little Bill Staines sound to it, and his home base is Raleigh NC

10) Texas - Mother Banjo

Ellen Stanley who play as Mother Banjo is both a kindred spirit who promotes other musicians in her multiple shows and her leadership at FARM, she also is a darn good writer.  She sent us Water in an MP3, and this song recorded with her significant other.  She hails from the Minneapolis MN area today.  While I couldn't find Texas on her Bandcamp page, I did find Water:

11) The Lights of Juarez - Eric Douglas

Yes we have 12 songs in part because Eric Douglas from Phoenix AZ sent us some great songs the last day of the contest.  Let him paint you the scene around Jaurez and dreaming of his love in a song just uploaded May 31st too; yet Bandcamp tells me it was a song released in 2016.  (All good we had no time limit on good music and submissions)

12) Where's My Familiar - Fran Felton

Fran Felton calls the Coulee Region of La Crosse her home, and shared a fitting song for May's Mental Health Awareness Month.
