DBT #221 Monday Morning Song - Not Mine by Taylor Rae

Welcome to Monday Morning Song that is composed on a Sunday Night if it's timely. Tonight I spent time living in some videos and ran into a favorite, Taylor Rae.  I'm mesmerized by her simple clean guitar work and that voice.  If I'm in YouTube of course Taylors eyes and resemblance to my high school crush on Linda Rondstadt, can distract me a little; but this song is so well crafted.  When we saw her last year open for Pokey LaFarge I think she did this song telling a story about her EX.  Let's all agree people, if you're going to tick off your friend think twice if they are a songwriter.

Taylor really nailed it with the "how do you sleep at night?"  You should read along:

We were a mess in the makin’
I was never yours for the takin’
You told me we were fine, I was shakin’
Always been fucking good at fakin’

Never thought I'd be on this end
The way you sell you’re pretty lies
Like a new trend
Oh you really had me goin

How do you sleep at night?
Oh that's right,
You don't
And that's why I
Never tried to rationalize

You call me crazy
But I’m starting to think
That’s not me
That’s not mine
It feels damn good to see the light

A memory vague
Asleep at the wheel
It’s hard to believe that it was all real
Some parts of me will never heal

How do you sleep at night?
Oh that's right,
You don't
And that's why I
Never tried to rationalize

You call me crazy
But I’m starting to think
That’s not me
That’s not mine
It feels damn good to see the light

The only lies I told were to myself
To get what you want, you’d wreck my mental health
You broke all your own rules
Just to play me as a fool
Sometimes I wonder how long
You would have gone doing me wrong

So how do you sleep at night
Knowing that I’m alright
I survived, oh
And it feels damn good to see the light

Here I dare out to watch and not fall in love with the song.  I did, but then turned on the repeat on my Bandcamp purchase in the background for around 8 plays.

And of course I hope you support Taylor and buy the song.
