DBT #291 Still Around

Hey hey hey, I've made another trip around the sun, and I'm still at it.  Leave it to my sister Judy for posting Still Rocking after all these years, that reminded me of the Paul Simon and quickly found I had a ton of "Still" songs.  I picked 16 for this rainy birthday, and it pushed me to listen to some songs I have never listened to and some in ages.  Here's hoping you all are having while existing still.

So this will be interesting what I'll find out in Bandcamp or YouTube, let's go I don't have all day! (Actually I pretty much do)

1) Still Crazy After All These Years - Paul Simon

Welp this song started it, and yes I had to go to the vinyl library and import the song.

2) Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - Jessica Malone

Sorry while I have Jessica's concert to listen to her U2 cover; and I don't have any U2 in my library.  I do have some Celtic Women so I'm putting their cover in the playlist at the end of this post.

3) Still Dreaming - Caitlin Jemma

I figured I'd follow Jessica with a friend of hers who also played the house concert.  I did wake up dreaming today.

I woke up across the world today
but I'm still dreamin' of ya...

She's a wild woman, and seeing her brings back memories of meeting her busking in Boulder.

4) I'm Still Here - Chicago Farmer

Wow found a 7 year old video of Cody and a band rocking out this song.  Yes this is my trifecta of three people who have played the house concert; but Chicago Farmer did it solo.  Ha.

5) I'm Still Standing - Kit Mayer

A LaCrosse legend who is still around, and has made a few of our house concerts in the audience.

This video is not included on the playlist below because I need to tell Kit about changing it from being published as a  "Kid Video."

6) I Still Do - Maggie Rogers

This pop star is a recent add to my library thanks to Sarah's recommendation.  While this video is a little shaky it's a good live recording. (boy she looks like a young Meg Ryan)

7) I'm Still Standing Here - Karan Casey

One of my pandemic purchases in 2020, nice I haven't listened to her enough.  Yes the lines on my face are evidence of where I've been.

Wow, she's good.  Here she sings the song a cappella.

8) I'm Still Here - John Hartford

Ok, you know my list has to have a few old farts in it right?  I didn't get to 66 without music.

9) I'd Still be Here - Johnny Cash

Old fart #2, and I deliberately left of "I Still Miss Someone" but this classic from "Ring of Fire" doesn't get enough plays in my library.

10) Soaring Still - Lauren Oxford

I needed a young lady to shake up the lineup; and though I have never met her, I have to thank Siena Christie for introducing me to her.

even though i never met her,
all these things i know about her—
how could i not see her in you?
she was always there beside you,
a steady hand to hold and guide you
it’s so clear she’s soaring still
in the heart that beats inside you

11) Still Believing - Mary Black

I'm still believing I'll get a chance to see this woman live someday, the Irish's Emmylou Harris.

12) Still is Still Moving to Me - Willie Nelson

I wish I still had the T-shirt I bought when we saw Willie for the first time in 1978.

13) We're Still Here - Annie & Rod Capps

Met Annie and Rod at the Great River Folk Fest and FARM.

And now you can meet them too.

14) Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow - Finest Kind

I had a few covers of this song, and this one is the best.

I'm sorry that this video will not be in the YouTube playlist, because like Kit's above it has that dumb Kid's setting on it.

So guess which one I put in the playlist?  Click this and find out.  Ha.

15) Still Alive and Well - Edgar Winter's White Trash

Oh to put Johnny's release or Edgar's cover... This White Trash record was almost worn out back in my youth.  This is actually Rick Derringer singing lead with a few backup screams from Edgar. Anyone want to Rock 'n Roll!

16) Still Gonna Die - Bob Gibson

Bob's Shel Silverstein cover album is one of my favorites, and here is the lyric:

So you're takin' better care of your body
Becoming more aware of your body.
Responding to your body's needs.
Everything you hear and read about diets,
Nutrition and sleeping position and detoxifying your system,
And buying machines that they advertise to help you exercise.
Herbs to revitalize you if you're traumatized.
Soaps that will sanitize.
Sprays to deordorize.
Liquid to neutralize acids and pesticides.
Free weights to maximize your strength and muscle size.
Shots that will immunize.
Pills to re-energize you.

But remember that for all your pain and gain
Eventually the story ends the same...
You can quite smokin', but you're still gonna die.
Cut out cokin', but you're still gonna die.
Eliminate everything fatty or fried,
And you get real healthy, but you're still gonna die.
Stop drinkin' booze, you're still gonna die.
Stay away from cooze, you're still gonna die.
You can cut out coffee and never get high,
But you're still gonna, still gonna, still gonna die.

You're still gonna, still gonna, still gonna die.
Still gonna, still gonna, still gonna die.
You can even give aerobics one more try,
But when the music stops playin', you're still gonna die.
Put seat belts in your car, you're still gonna die.
Cut nicotine tar, you're still gonna die.
You can exercise that cellulite off your thigh.
Get slimmer and trimmer, but you're still gonna die.
Stop gettin' a tan, you're still gonna die.
You can search for UFO's up in the sky
They might fly you to Mars where you're still gonna die.

You're still gonna, still gonna, still gonna die.
Still gonna, still gonna, still gonna die.
And all the Reeboks and Nikes and Adidas you buy
You can jog up to heaven and you're still gonna die.

Drink ginseng tonics, you're still gonna die.
Try high colonics, you're still gonna die.
You can have yourself frozen and suspended in time,
But when they do thaw you out, you're still gonna die.
You can have safe sex, you're still gonna die.
You can switch to Crest, you're still gonna die.
You can get rid of stress, get a lot of rest,
Get an AIDS test, enroll in EST,
Move out west where it's sunny and dry
And you'll live to be a hundred
But you're still gonna die.

You're still gonna, still gonna, still gonna die.
Still gonna, still gonna, still gonna die.
So you'd better have some fun
'Fore you say bye-bye,
'Cause you're still gonna, still gonna, still gonna die.
