DBT #314 Long Road

Even before the US disappointed me and elected a felon and habitual liar as President, I noted that it will be a long road back to civil discourse.  Of course I do blame Trump the most for inspiring his followers to be overly obnoxious, but they are so sensitive they think we are calling them names.  Have they listened to their leader?  Oh well there I go again, it's tough and it'll be a long road to mend the discourse that has created pot holes so deep that it will be hard to fix without an entire repaving.

When I saw my new favorite singer, Danni Nicholls had a Long Road Home on one of my new purchases, the playlist theme was set in motion.  Again I thank Discogs for their search ability in my library to find 6 of the dozen songs in this playlist.  Of course then I had to import from CD or vinyl, but that's my passion.

Here's what I ended up with:

1) Long Road Home - Danni Nicholls

This is an awesome opening her 2015 album, and so fitting the theme of a long road to heal back up.

I ran from my people now they are ghosts
And those that I’m afraid of are the ones I love the most
I dread to see their sad and empty eyes
When they discover I’ve returned without the prize

Oh it’s a hard thing to do
When you’ve roamed the world alone
To turn upon your heel
And walk the long road
Walk that long road back home

Did I say the song also cooks....

2) The Long and Winding Road - Olivia Newton John

Ok, I had the Beatles song in the playlist when Discogs told me that she covered the song.  Well I had a huge crush on her when I was 18 and this song was album was released, so the song will appear twice; and she has an awesome harp picking to begin the song.

3) Long Road - Annie Bacon & her OSHEN

This is why I do these playlists, this song was sitting there with maybe one play.  It's another excellent written song, and I love the simplicity of the mix and second vocal.

And it comes with a great lyric video... I know I know with better pictures than the one I put in the post pic. (ha it was in my downloads already so I didn't go buy a new one)

4) The Long Road - Cliff Eberhardt

I have several versions of this song, and this one is so good (even though it's hard to top the one with Richie Havens)  I want to let you listen to a live and the studio.

Yes this mix is perfect, and yes the whole playlist could have been this one song.

5) The Long Road - Beth Wood

Of course my great song writer friend Beth Wood would have also written a song on the theme.  Another reason to mix up these playlists, you get to revisit a artist you love musically and personally.  Funny I shampooed the carpets today to give me something to keep me from being depressed, and I think the last time I did that Beth Wood was playing the house concert and she has a bad allergy to cats; so I clean up the place.

6) Long Hard Road (The Sharecropper's Dream) - The Dirt Band

I did not know this was their first number one hit?  Yes this starts the songs that I have to thank Discogs for finding (besides Olivia).  Love seeing the live clip was out there.

7) The Long Road - Dougie MacClean

Boy I have pulled this record out in ages, and imported a few songs from it while I had it out.  We saw Dougie during our honeymoon trip to the Winnipeg Folk Festival in 1983.

8) Long Road - Hamilton, Joe Franks, and Reynolds

Yes I own their first record that had their biggest hit, "Don't Pull Your Love"

9) Been on the Road too Long - Paul Stookey

Here's a fun original song from Paul's first solo album.

10) The Long and Winding Road - The Beatles

Classic, and since this was from the Let It Be sessions, it almost means more to me.  Let's try not to break up America... let's keep the band together.

11) The Long Road - Mark Knopfler "Screenplaying"

This CD I don't listen to much, I didn't realize it was all background music Mark did for four different movies.  Excellent music, but I love lyrics.

12) Long Road Out of Eden - The Eagles

I follow a 7 minute instrumental with a 10 minute song.  Great song, but long.
