DBT #316 I Can Do It
50% of the population of America is struggling thinking they Can't Do It recently, and while this playlist won't completely help; I would urge you to make your own. Yep even if you just use that evil Spotify, let music help you cope.
My playlist today was inspired by looking at my most recent purchase, Fayme Rochelle and the Waxwings. My goal was to create a playlist from a song on the album and then see what I could create in a dozen songs with new music to the library. I thought about river, state, or bird songs and settled on songs that start with I. Selfish right? I had to be careful I truly could make a full playlist out of "I Can't" songs. Here's the eclectic mix I came up with:
1) I Want You - Fayme Rochelle & The Waxwings
Boy it was fun seeing them for the first time last weekend, and I saw she had a Bandcamp page. The 2014 album has a more country feel with the fiddle over the rockabilly country sound she had at the Popcorn. This is an original by Fayme and I love the change in tempo in the song.
This is how they sounded last Sunday.
2) I Don't Want No Woman - Johnny Jenkins
Scrolling through the recent adds this blues gem came up and it was there because after I was importing some of Duane Allman's An Anthology I noted that I really loved the songs he played on a Johnny Jenkins album. While the orginal vinyl can go for $55, Apple music had it for $5.99 digitally. I'll still pick up a reissue if I ever run into it, but for now I can listen to some great new old blues with Duane Allman on guitar.
3) I Believe in Her - Excursions
Thanks to Marv, one of my house concert regulars, I have some new old 1965 vinyl that I imported. Excursions were a Beach Boy imitation or inspired band. Sorry I couldn't find the song in either BC or YouTube, but here's a link in Amazon.
4) I Don't Mind - The Who
Staying in 1965, I was gifted by Sarah Peacock a reissue of The Who's first album in MONO even.
5) I Bid You Goodnight - Happy and Artie Traum
I recently got around to importing a vinyl I bought back in September. Artie did pass away in 2008, but his brother Happy died just this year in July. Yes the beauty of my playlists is this song follows The Who... ha, than anything is possible in this world.
6) I Know - The FCB (Frank Critelli Band)
Frank sent me a five live song mix and this is fun. AND it's available for what ever you would like to pay at Bandcamp.
7) I Can't Enough of You - Haley E. Rydell
Lately I can't enough of Haley's album I bought after I saw her at the Great River Folk Fest (GRFF).
8) I Don't Know What to Do with You Joe - McKain Lakey
Here's another find from GRFF, so let's get a two step into the playlist.
9) I Will Pass this Way Again - Small Potatoes
I imported this 1996 cd recently, here's a live video that has some great sound of the audience singing with them.
10) I Can't Dance - Gram Parsons
Ok Gram I bet you can if Emmylou is with you. Yes I did buy a mint re-issue of this gem album.
11) I Will Have My Portion - Susan Werner
Yep I picked a couple of back catalog cd's from Susan... I love Susan, but who doesn't. Here she is doing the song live solo but with some incredible harmonies.
12) I Can Help - Lindsay Lou
Ok I lovev Lindsay too, but also who doesn't. At least I got one I CAN song. Just like our blog's motto, "Good Music has NO Expiration Date" and when an artist brings a 1974 song back to life with a great cover; but you got to appreciate it.
And it comes with a great video.
Hey while I could, I didn't do a one click playlist today, too many holes.
