DBT #405 Xmas Monday Morning Song - Believe

Ok I am not a huge buyer of Christmas music, but I love acoustic versions of original or traditional songs; and then I love good song writing sung by voices I know.  There are three Mondays before Christmas so let me share a few newer songs that caught me this year.

First on Bandcamp Friday I noted my folky jazz pop singer Allison Young put out two Christmas songs.  She teased me with a lot of single releases and I just love her voice adding more variety to the library.  She did not disappoint, both songs are so much fun.  I bought both songs in spite of listening to the first ten seconds of Believe and I thought, "Well at least, I'll like Cozy the first song".  Ok so I was really listening in the car and to my joy the song picked up the beat and told such a fun story of a child seeing a real Santa.

Of course later, I was relaxing on the couch and listened again reading the lyrics.  Job well done

Old Saint Nicolas looks ridiculous
In his big red suit
I couldn't believe my eyes
To my surprise
He's got a mullet and a gold cap tooth

His pockets jingle
But not like Kringle
What does he have in store?
His got big black boots
That are a little loose and
Draggin' mud all over the floor

I hear him tearing up the snow
In his GTO
Not really what I had in mind
He smells like cigarettes
Kinda funny isn't it
Santa's always on that grind

You gotta believe me
When I say
This old elf is overworked
Overwhelmed
And underpaid
Not what I expected
To see
Stumblin' round my Christmas tree
He's as real as real could be
You gotta believe me

I got big news
Santa's got tattoos
He wasn't jolly in any way
When he brought his sack in
I saw him packin
Jim beam and a .38

Mama said no judgin
Even though he's cussin
Tryna figure out the fireplace
Seems like he's over it
Gettin' old and showin it
But who could ever take his place

You gotta believe me
When I say (Oh when I say)
This old elf is overworked
Overwhelmed
And underpaid
Not what I expected
To see (What do I see?)
Stumblin' round my Christmas tree
He's as real as real could be
He kind of looks like uncle Steve
You gotta believe me

You gotta believe me
When I say (What do you say?)
This old elf is overworked
Overwhelmed
And underpaid
Not what I expected
To see (What do you see?)
Stumblin' round my Christmas tree
He's as real as you and me
He kind of looks like uncle Steve
You just have to wait and see
You gotta believe me

Ho Ho Ho
