DBT #377 Thinking About Women
This playlist started after I listened to Kristin Lems "Mammary Glands" and I wondered if I could really do a playlist with fun, but not dirty songs about women's breasts. I couldn't but what evolved I think is a playlist that honors the wild side of women, and it ended up with me importing three albums from the funny folk legend Christine Lavin. Yes, too many times I pay more attention to the recent purchases forgetting that I have some great music sitting in the backroom that needs more listening.
Now some might accuse me of blatantly trying to get the algorithms to see the naked model in the post picture. Well I it was tough to come up with a picture that was fun and sultry like the title suggests without being dirty. I'm a sucker for dark eyes, and Adobe Stock Photos offered this model and she had some great poses. It made me smile, so forgive me. Now let's listen to music and I hope everyone approves:
1) Mammary Glands - Kristin Lems
Per Wikipedia, "Kristin Lems is an American musician, singer-songwriter, feminist, and author/educator in the field of teaching English as a Second Language (ESL).
My collection of Kristin, started only a few weeks ago when I bought her Flying Fish release based on if FF booked her, She's good. Well she was, and her history made me even more interested. Of course I've had a good share of feminist folksingers in the collection, and she did come up in the top search from Google too:Well thanks to Discogs, I was intrigued to get her rookie vinyl; and found a seller with FOUR Rookie vinyls on my want list and all have been such a blast to listen to and import.
Kristin's "Oh Mama" had me click six of the eleven songs as favorites, including this one about women's breasts. Of course it's got a ragtime feel too. This has to put a smile on your face.2) Boob Job - Dave Wilcox
David put this fun live acoustic beat song on his album "East Asheville Hardware"
3) Boobie Song - Shanna In A Dress
If you follow the blog you know Shanna is a friend who I love how she can write. Always reminded me of Christine Lavin; and guess who shows up at the end of this playlist. Shanna likes to tell me that the Boobie song is her Grandma's favorite, and it's of course A natural to fit with Mammary Glands.
You can own it by buying her live album in Bandcamp:
And this video has 9K views is pretty special.
4) I Like Girls Who Like Girls - Marques Bovre
As I was searching different versions of Mammary Glands and ran into this song. I so love it, and yes many a feminist has been known to like women more than men. Thus the playlist is now veering off the original subject.
5) Gay or Taken - Jenn Bostic
Now let's get into a woman's mind, where poor Jenn recognizes the predicament that so many guys are jerks and A-holes, and it seems all the good ones are either Gay or Taken. Now the studio version is a great country song (sorry it's not in Bandcamp), the live bus video is just too good not to share.
6) Rufus Is A Tit Man - Loudon Wainwright III
I wonder what Rufus Wainwright now thinks of this song. Wow the son of Loudon and Kate McGarrigle, and Martha Wainwright is her sister; mighty strong genes in that breast milk.
7) She's a Wild One - Evangeline
Now the playlist gets a little wild with a Evangeline an all women band on a Jimmy Buffett managed label; and the first song off the playlist that I couldn't find on YouTube, of course Faith Hill's cover "Wild One" was. Come on, Evangeline did it first and just as good so it needed to be out there for people to hear.
8) My Kind Of Man - Four Bitchin' Babes
This song and Shanna's "MMM That's Hot" makes me think that I still have a shot with women.
9) Wild Women Don't Get the Blues - Ginni Clemmens
Ginni was a friend of Steve Goodman in Chicago, and I'm amazed her album isn't more sought after. It's pretty rare find and it's a great album.
10) Why'd You Come In Here Looking Like That - Dolly Parton
Oh Dolly... I've always said more people need to cover more of her songs outside of Jolene. She does significantly come to mind with the original playlist subject.
11) Mysterious Women - Christine Lavin
Yes she has a mind that is very mysterious to try to read and analyze.
12) Sensitive New Age Guys - Christine Lavin
So while I've used this playlist, I kept it clean because I'm a sensitive new age guy. Plus once Christine played the Great River Folk Fest, and I volunteered to be in her SNAG choir on stage.
Yes of course for all the ladies (and guy readers) we have a one-click YouTube playlist:
