DBT #435 Monday Morning Song - Whiskey Before Breakfast

Ah me mates, it's been a while since we've had a little Whiskey,

specifically Edition no. 340 we did a wee bit of

I was thinking today of what Kelly Hunt said of

The Lost Nation String Band's words to the song,

yea she'll never hear it the same again.

So here we go then,

Warren Nelson told me in the comment on this video

that he heard the song at a Mason Williams recording session

and went home in Denver and wrote the lyrics in 1974.

Hmm I was a sophomore in high school, so it's traditional now?  Ha.

Some of you know I also play a little banjo and as of yesterday

I started to learn this and the lyrics help immensely.

He thought so highly of the song, he named his 1976 record after it.

He starts it off with another traditional song Fiddler's Dram.

You can tell immediately that Lost Nation's version is slower to make it easier to sing to the melody.

Somehow I found this dynamic female trio from the Twin Cities on Bandcamp,

I must have a nose for that.

They intro it with another traditional song, Martin's Breakdown.

Sorry, it's not in YouTube.

Ah... from a very recent vinyl buy,

her 1979 rookie debut "More Than Friends"

The twin fiddles really sets this one apart from the three before it.

Another song from a 1975 rookie debut album,

"How Can I Keep From Singing."

John sandwiches Whiskey in between

Boneaparts Crossing and Jude's Last Tune.

He backed up Will Maring at our first ever

Bluff View house concert,

and her they are playing it live.

All these songs are in our Monday Morning Song YouTube Playlist.
