Dave's Music #28 Peace, Love & Unity

As explained in a previous post, we're using Thursdays to revisit radio shows, and tonight's let's get some peace and love in our life.

1) At The Turning Of The Year - Pricilla Herdman, Anne Hills, and Cindy Mangsen

Let's dance & spin and relax and with a peace that can happen only when we ask for forgiveness and with gratefulness.

Now the solstice moon is like a pearl suspended in the lake
Frozen underneath a spell no human hand can break
We turn to ask forgiveness, and with gratefulness of heart
Turn once again to welcome in the new year as it starts

2) Home To Me - Tom Paxton, Anne Hills, & Bob Gibson

I was lucky to see each of theses legends in concert at the Great River Folk Fest, but sadly individually.  The harmonies and the thought of being Home with them is tremendously peaceful and joyous.

While here's the song in one of those audio only videos I grow tired of but appreciate for the blog.

Here's one of how they looked back then; might I say Anne is truly a rose between two old talented thornbushes, at least it's also a love song; though wasn't in my original playlist.

3) Give Yourself To Love - Kate Wolf

I've played this song for a wedding a couple times, but truly this is a folk legend love song.  If you don't own it, buy some of Kate's music.  She left us way too early.  I'm thankful a fan put together this lyric video.

4) Postcards from Paonia - Humbird

Humbird played the fest in 2021 and of course is a blog favorite.  If this isn't a hauntingly Celtic picture of peace painted by Siri with imagines of nature and hippy farmers, longing to return to plant roots in the ground.

5) Love Heeds the Call - Songa

A 2020 Songwriter Finalist, and played the fest in 2021, this song won my heart instantly.

6) Holy Now - Peter Mayer

My buddy Tim Kolek introduced me to this song as a possible song to play at church, it's a little a more Catholic for our ELCA Lutheran congregation, but truly it's again one you can find yourself at peace in the beautiful lyrics like finding it in a smile of a child's face or a redwing bird.

7) Peace My Soul - Dead Horses

Fitting to follow a church song with Sarah Vos who was a preacher's kid, and she sings a hymn to hers and your soul; all planted in to grow love.

8) For All the Good People - Fred Holstein

If this isn't one of the best folk anthems that doesn't get enough love.  Fred left us way too early.

9) Company of Friends - Carrie Elkin & Danny Schmidt

I have no idea why my favorite song of Danny's is not in his extensive Bandcamp library.  I've hosted this wonderful couple for a house concert and finally in 2021 both played the fest together.

10) We Will Build this House - Sally Rogers and Claudia Schmidt

If Unity is displayed in coming together to build a house for some stranger, then let there be a song to document it.

The original show had more songs, but these were my favorite to share in the blog playlist.

Hope you loved the journey ... remember to follow us and as always Good Music has NO Expiration Date, so if you are listening to this ten years from now, it still will be awesome music.  If this is a first time visit, check out the index of themes for past editions.
