Dave's Music #139 Kerrville New Folk Vol 1
After I wrote the Lisa Bastoni post and mentioned that I seem to be collecting Kerrville New Folk Winners & Finalists as really good musical friends; so you know me. I made a playlist. I wanted to make sure I went as far as the year Johnsmith won because he lives ten miles from my house so that took me to 1990. I ended up with 33 musicians, and I'm wondering if I don't have a few more in my cd collection that I haven't imported digitally yet. 33 songs is intimidating for a playlist and can't imagine you will give it that much time to listen. So I'm chopping it into at least 3 playlists of 11 each. Plus you know me, I might find some more or decide to go older than 1990 and pick up John Gorka and David Massengail into the libary. In choosing the song, many times I wanted to mix it up and not listen to a song that some would consider their hit. More so I wanted a playlist I would enjoy; because if I don't want to listen to it, why should you? Here's what my 33 songs looked like:
Now Kerrville Folk might notice Danny Schmidt and Johnsmith are slightly out of order. I was originally just going to stop at 15 and wanted those two in the playlist. I'll update them into the right spots when I do Vol 2 & 3.
OF COURSE, if I find that winning this competition is a benchmark of songwriting prowess, why don't I have more? Give me time I can only listen and absorb so much at a time. I don't always buy to collect, though it happens to the best of us vinyl lovers.
I'm aware some of these songs may be hard to find either on Bandcamp or YouTube, and I might substitute for the blog playlist because I ain't going to give you a Spotify link because of my streaming principles.
Let's get going then.
