Recently I added new Whiskey songs to my library and wondered how many I had shared on an earlier playlist that I gave a tip of the hat to my friend Kent Aubry's love of Bourbon. Way back on Edition #160 we toasted 12 songs, so I was game to try Volume 2 with maybe 14 songs, twice as many as Old No. 7 Tennessee Whiskey Jack Daniels. Why the king of Kentucky whiskeys? Well some redneck people haven't loved their outreach two years ago on supporting drag and other LGBT causes and now Kid Rock style people are wasting good booze. FUCK them I say (sorry but this really get me angry). People have a right in this country, we're supposed to be the most free nation. I'm also a conservative socialist, so I love when a company works hard at supporting and reaching ALL people. I went and bought my first Jack Daniels since I hosted the Whiskeybelles at our house concert. (I'm more of a scotch guy) Go Jack Daniels, you keep making a great US product for everybody.
Now let's get back to music.
1) One Glass of Whiskey - Robbie Fulks
This song just released was the push to get started on volume two, and yes it was just shared on Thursday Release Review.
2) Whiskey Kisses - Martin Devaney
I was pushed over to listen to Martin from a friend doing a MN song playlist... when I started to listen to this 2013 release I knew it needed it to be in the library; especially this song.
Fun little video with him too.
3) Canadian Whiskey - Nanci Griffith & Ian Tyson
Ok so after two new songs, I'm checking back and forth to make sure I don't share a song twice. Oh thank you Nanci for adding this to your cover albums. Rest in peace up in heaven, I hope Jesus shows up at the local heavenly bar.
4) Cheap Whiskey - Patty Loveless
Yes this is from Patty's best album release ever...some awesome players are backing her up.
5) He Loved Whiskey - Brenna Larson
I met Brenna thru the Great River Folk Fest songwriter contest... great song in an old concept:
6) Waltz about Whiskey - Mandolin Orange
I have this awesome song from an Austin City Limit import, but the video sure is just as good.
7) Whiskey Wings - Dean Miller
Not sure why I have Roger Miller's son in my library but this song has been favorite. I know I know... here I go again, but Good Music has NO expiration date... it just comes back around, even if and maybe better if I have two sheets to the wind.
8) Whiskey Before Breakfast - The Lost Nation String Band
Truly these are the absolute best words written to the old traditional tune, and when I could not find them anywhere in Google or YouTube I felt copy write be darned and you need to hear this song. I uploaded what I loathe, an audio video. Enjoy.
9) Whiskey Evening - Two Tap Trio
Again another favorite that I was amazed wasn't in Volume 1. Norah Rendell, Nathan Gourley and Brian Miller are outstanding and this song was also memorialized in my Xmas Tour video the Sunday after I used their live recording from their house concert at the Bluff View two days earlier.
10) Rye Whiskey Joe - Bill Staines
Interestingly the song in my playlist from this legend is from his self titled vinyl, and maybe I'm a little brash but here's my cover I recorded while having an opportunity in a hotel while my wife was with her sisters and mom. Yes I dubbed in the banjo later, and yes I did host him in 2015.
11) Whiskey Johnny - Gaelic Storm
If you search for a song and the Gaelic Storm comes up, you grab it by the gusto it will bring. Love the fact I found a live video made by a fan, and the live version ends up in a huge percussion performance.
12) Shot of Whiskey - Whiskeybelles
How can I not add my favorite Whiskey ladies... this one doesn't have a nice live video... sorry.... but it's such a great bluegrass song it needed to be in the mix.
13) The Difference between Whiskey and Me - Fox Crossing Stringband
Dang... another one I couldn't find, but I love these ladies so much they need to have a video in the post... here's a concert:
14) One Last Shot of Whiskey - Lucky Dog AKA Dave Schipper AKA me.
This sad tale of a white male shunned for the odor that he is sorry for, if it brings her home isn't released in digital format. Likely because it might be a little smelly.
