Ok in addition to a huge music lover, I am a degreed Accountant because my parents told me that I was so good in math that I'll be an accountant; they make a lot of money. You know bless them, my parents worked super hard to raise seven children at a carpenter's wage and mom added some clerk part time help. Accountants were not uber rich but compared to them they were; so I ended up starting my career as an accountant; but as a creative Cost Accountant. I eventually morphed it into Operations, Materials Management and even Marketing, but I still love manipulating numbers. One number I'm super excited is that this blog has hit over 100,000 views. We hit 50k in Feb 2024, so even though I really slacked off last summer to play and to add a ton of live recordings to my "Around Town" playlist. We doubled that in a just over a year. Thank you for reading, thank the bots would weave their indexing, and thank the artist who seem to love the extra attention. Don't worry we're not gaining views to Monetize, even if Trump tanks the stock market by 25% I'll still be ok and don't need to advertise on this blog. It appears we're doing better than average.
Of course, you know this had to have a playlist, so how about a song with "Hundred" followed by one with "Thousand"? I love how it wormed it's way deep into my collection.
1) Hundred Miles - Gillian Welch
I love how legends show up on Bandcamp too, more should join Gillian.
2) I Love You a Thousand Ways - Willie Nelson
I so love his "To Lefty From Willie" album that had to buy it over; not sure what happened to my first one; maybe it was just a recording from a library record.
3) Hundred Miles - I'm With Her
So let's put the three best folk ladies together... yes they are good.
Here he is solo, amazing his song is about 3,000 miles, but his main character in the story came from 90 miles from me in Eau Claire WI.
5) Five Hundred Miles - Justin Timberlake, Carey Mulligan & Stark Sands
Yep because of "Inside Llewyn Davis (Original Soundtrack Recording)" I have a Justin Timberlake song in the blog. Might be the last ha. I have read some have said that Inside Llewyn Davis is really the prequel to A Complete Unknown because Dylan shows up in one of the last scenes. I really should watch this film over. This video is such a tease.
6) One Thousand Times A Day - Marykate O'Neil
I don't know what inspired me to add this 2008 album to the library.
7) A Hundred Lies - Malcolm Holcombe
I love this guy's voice, sadly he departed us March 9th 2024.
Here he is solo.
8) A Thousand Woods - Weary Ramblers
Thankful for such a great concert and recording. Plus Chad and Kathryn have smiled nicely at the rewards of selling the concert in Bandcamp.
Yes I did get a video from the night but it's an unlisted one that you can normally can see if you buy their live cd on Bandcamp; but here you go. Yes you are a special reader to me.
I love how she's putting out music that really sounds old.
11) Five Hundred Meters - The Deep Dark Woods
From 2008, meters I guess that's normal when you're talking water depths and a bleeding heart.
12) A Thousand Kisses Deep - Leonard Cohen
I love that this song comes from a 2001 album "Ten New Songs" Either labels kept putting out compilations or he put all his effort into the songs and not the album name. Of course I had to check Wikipedia and it said that it was his first album with new music in 9 years. He would have been about my age at 67, so at that point you can just say F it, I'll name it whatever you want.
13) One Hundred Years (1852) - Dawn Landes
Her historic "The Liberated Woman's Songbook" is a must for a folk collector. Very modern mixes make these gems accessible to the current listeners.
14) A Thousand Lives - Adriana
Like I said earlier this playlist concept really had me deep in the library. Adriana's song released in 2005 that I bought in iTunes back in 2007. I found she's in Bandcamp from the UK so I'm now following her, and she might show up in my purchases in the future.
15) Five Hundred Days - Peter Mulvey, Sistastrings
What is it with folk singers and Five Hundred? Knowing Peter he challenged himself to write something with five hundred. The sisters have a great orchestration on this song.
16) Thousand Miles Away - Jeffery Straker
This 2017 song was one of my 2020 pandemic additions to the library. Love the way this Canadian drives the song with the grand piano, so fitting that I found him playing one to share. Yes this is a nice dramatic way to end the playlist.
Right since the blog's inception, I've added a routine where you can listen easily as a One-Click Playlist. Here you go; either click that link or the picture.
