Recently I decided that I would add audio videos in YouTube when I hit an artist or song that I really want to share, and yet they aren't in Bandcamp or YouTube. Rick Thompson's "Store Bought Bread" was a recent addition that was already in DBT #268 Retail, Meet Me At the Mall and DBT #112 Are You Hungry I did one of those upload it and ask for permission and he gave me a thumbs up. I did say if he had a favorite he would like in YouTube, and he said "A Hundred Years" so that so sounded like the next playlist, and it is. First here's the bread song....
Now let's look at what dozen of songs I found... hmm a few legends in the list both in my mind and the world's mind... like Johnsmith, Erik Koskinen, Bill Staines, Ian Tyson, Bob Dylan, and John Prine. Guy heavy this time, but I got the lovely Magnolia Janes, Margo Price and Lee Ann Womack sings the duet with John Prine.
1) A Hundred Years - Rick Thompson
This is a beautiful love story and I tried my best to get images to flow with the song. I hope you enjoy the video. (of course listening to this song makes me kick myself for not adding "45 Years" from Stan Rogers which is also about his wife)
2) Fifty Years Ago - Ian Tyson
Cutting the first song in half. ha. Boy I love Ian's cowboy songs.
3) Forty Years - Johnsmith
Keeping it local with a legend from Trempealeau, with his nod to his love released in 2022.
4) The First Time in Years - Erik Koskinen
There is something about Erik how he blends sounds from Mark Knopfler, Richard Thompsen, with a hint of Gram Parsons; this is a great song I love this playlist so much.
5) The Years that Come To Pass - Bill Staines
Wow, it looks like this playlist might end up with me adding three new old songs to YouTube, including this gem from Bill's 1977 release, "Old Wood and Winter Wine"
6) Four Years of Chances - Margo Price
She gave you a chance and screwed up with Margo? You must have been nuts.
7) The Light Years - The Magnolia Janes
The title cut off their rookie release, it won't be in the YouTube playlist but if you want to see these two in a TV studio, click here for a different live song.
We are time travelers Stepping in to the great unknown The hour glass is ravenous For the burned out stars that shone
8) A Few More Years Shall Roll - The Onlies
Yes the quartet that is half Vivian & Riley. "Our version is inspired by the great Hazel Dickens and Alice Gerrard, and by Addie Graham’s performance of the song."
Boy I love those two and how seeped in traditional music they are at such a young age.
9) Fifteen Years Ago - Duet with Lee Ann Womack & John Prine
Boy I love that duet album. and this song was written by Conway Twitter's friend and writer, Raymond Smith.
10) Gypsy Roving Years - Jerry Rau
Jerry was on fine folk singer, and a great interpreter of songs including Bill Staines. This title track was written by Jerry. Like Bill above, here's the third song I needed to add to YouTube to share. Buy it at : DISCOGS.
11) Long and Wasted Years - Bob Dylan
I'm hugely familiar with his Tempest album, so I'm glad this song is in the playlist.
12) Six Years Come September - American Aquarium
Again, thanks to playlists I dust off music I haven't listened to a ton since I bought it during the pandemic in a Bandcamp spending spree. I love how the first line reminds me of Ray LaMontagne song.
