DBT #367 Rain Storms Vol. 3

Leave it to a rainy Wednesday to revisit a rainy subject, storms.  Yes Rain Vol. 1 was no. 54, and the Rain Vol. 2 was 306 and now it's stormy.  I know I did it TWENTY songs will make it another long playlist but I just couldn't narrow it anymore.  I just love to own all these songs (yes for those who are just running into this blog that is a requirement).

While I started this in a rain storm, I'm of course finishing and enjoying it in a smoky sunny day.  Boy when will those Canadian fire be over.

1) Storm - Melissa Hale

Love how this starts with slow pittering on the piano.  Recently I stocked up on her music.

2) Above the Storm - Caitlin Jemma

Another somber song of hugging in a storm ... not in YouTube I might have to fix that.

3) Another Summer Storm - David Nash

Picking up the pace as David walks around the yard with an approaching a metaphor summer storm; oh David.

4) Blood of the Storm - Rob Klajda

Love that this playlist brought this song back to me, it's awesome.

5) The Great Storm is Over - John McCutcheon

A song I love to pound out on the piano.  Of course this song is everywhere, but I so love when you see all ages singing with John even if it's missing the first verse.

6) How to Sleep in a Stormy Boat - Amy Speace

Great instructional song from Amy

7) Louisiana Storm - Bill Staines

The folk legend Bill always had a way to get people to sing along.  Luckily this guy filming it sings nicely on key.  Sure you can find the studio version out there but this brings back so many good memories of seeing Bill.

8) Love Storm - Brent Lillie

When I saw this MySpace download showed up in my search, I almost passed on it; but it's a simple and fun song; luckily I found it in YouTube.

9) Riders on the Storm - Santana

Expect eclectic from a Dave's Basement Tracks playlist, and big head swings from song to song ... what a cool version of this song.

10) Saint Carrie of the Storms - Jane Kramer

My 2021 recap had Jane as a highlight, so glad she's in my library.  Unfortunately she's not in Bandcamp for me to track her new music, but this is the compilation where I found her.  This is a swimmingly good song.

11) Shelter From the Storm - Bob Dylan

Let's nod to Bob and the 50th anniversary to one of the all time best albums.

12) Storm Comin' - The Wailin Jennys

Yes I stood in urgent care recounting how my wife first got sick on the way to go see The Wailin Jennys, the young doctor nodded cool.  Only later to clarify that he thought Waylon Jennings was passed away.  Ha.  Boy I'd love to spend money to have them do a house concert to an intimate 50 people, just like this video feels like.

13) Shelter of Storms - Mary Chapin Carpenter

Right this playlist has a few legends... not always the case but you can see why there is 20 songs.

14) Storm-a-Comin - Pokey La Farge

Put your dancing shoes on and waltz across the room.

15) Stormy Monday Blues - Rick Derringer (when he was with the McCoys)

Yep, so many choices for this song and here's a nod to the recent departure of Rick... rest in peace put a little Rock n' Roll Hoochie Koo in Heaven.

16) Storms Never Last - Waylon and Jessi

Speaking of Waylon... I also have this song covered by John Prine & Lee Ann Womack.  Storms may never last, and I'm usually done by sixteen songs, but four more to go.

17) Stormy Baby - Miss Tess

I couldn't pass putting this 2007 Modern Vintage sultry song from Miss Tess.

Of course sultry needs a dark grainy video to go with it, right?

18) Summer Storm for Charlotte - Humbird

Siri Undlin (Humbird) wrote this for a neighbor girl in the middle of all the George Floyd riot chaos in the Twin Cities.

Here you can read along with the song.

19) This Storm - Catherine MacLellan, Tara MacLean

Nothing beats sibling harmonies.  This song brings out the goosebumps for me, listen with headphones or in a quiet room.

This live video is softer than the studio, but just as touching and of course I love to see live music.  I'd be in the front row.  Now see I couldn't have left this song off of the playlist.

20) Wasn't That a Mighty Storm - Nanci Griffith

Ok wasn't this a mighty playlist?  Ha.. let's end it with another legend with Tom Rush and Frank Christian.

Well that was fun... here's your one click YouTube Playlist
