DBT #380 Sunset to Sunrise
You all know that I buy more music that I can absorb so I have these playlist tricks that push me to experiment with new music to fit into a theme. Tonight's started with a Sugar & Spice purchase called "Midnight Girl in a Sunset Town" and I immediately sensed I could build a playlist around Sunset to Midnight; but I quickly expanded it to Sunrise. Of course I love it for pushing me into the songs in the library that have been waiting to be played and adored.
If you stopped over to the Tequila playlist, you might have found out how I tied Danica Lynn to Sugar & Spice; and bought this song. Now it's inspired the playlist.
Written in the evening setting by my recently favorite duo.
3) Still Mornings - Sparrow Smith
Sparrow's solo effort, of course Resonant Rogues is all over the albu.
Here's a short with the song:
Recently saw Mark at the library in LaCrosse, and walked away with this great old album.
With lyrics like this it maybe should be in my future Haunting of the Blog 4!
Taking the ferry cross the North Sea
Bones of forgotten souls beneath
The only light tonight is the moon up in the sky
Night crossing
Bones of forgotten souls beneath
The only light tonight is the moon up in the sky
Night crossing
From my recent purchase of the legendary 1985 album "Various Positions"
7) Deep Dark Nights - Chain Station
Darkness works before sunrise.
8) Dark to Light - Austin Skalecki
Austin is up to something in the night.
How blue is the sky
Up in your mind
Do the clouds chase your blue skies away
Does the moon shine bright
Give life to the night
Does it cover the up the to depths to the hole we dug
To bury what’s left from so long ago
And put an end to this all for good
Like the world turns
From dark to light
Up in your mind
Do the clouds chase your blue skies away
Does the moon shine bright
Give life to the night
Does it cover the up the to depths to the hole we dug
To bury what’s left from so long ago
And put an end to this all for good
Like the world turns
From dark to light
9) The Same Moon - The Matchsellers
Love that there is this great live video for the song too.
10) Midnight Shift - Commander Cody And His Lost Planet Airmen
Right, some people work legitimate jobs during from Sunset to Sunrise.
11) I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor's Version) [feat. Chris Stapleton] - Taylor Swift
Right I had Midnight Rain, but I had used that song on DBT #317 Midnight, so when this song started with:
3 AM and I'm still awake, I'll bet you're just fineFast asleep in your city that's better than mineAnd the girl in your bed has a fine pedigreeAnd I'll bet your friends tell you she's better than me, huh
I had the song I wanted.
12) Golden Hour - Kacey Musgraves
I'm pretty sure that this verse didn't happen in the afternoon, so the golden hour has to be somewhere between sunset and sunrise.
We were just two loversFeet up on the dash, drivin' nowhere fastBurnin' through the summerRadio on blast, make the moment lastShe got solar powerMinutes feel like hoursShe knew she was the baddest, can you even imagineFallin' like I did?
13) Biloxi - Jessie Winchester
What a great song from Jessie's 1970 rookie debut self titled vinyl The song covers daylight with pretty girls swimming to the evening with stars so it counts.
The stars can see Biloxi
The stars can find their faces in the sea
And we are walking in the evening by the ocean
We are splashing naked in the water
And the sky is red from off towards New Orleans
The stars can find their faces in the sea
And we are walking in the evening by the ocean
We are splashing naked in the water
And the sky is red from off towards New Orleans
I love this fan video and their effort to explain Jessie's life story in the description of the video:
Jesse Winchester is an American singer-songwriter who was raised in Louisiana and Mississippi but moved to Canada in 1967 to avoid the Viet Nam war draft. He started working as a musician in Canada and recorded his fist album, Jesse Winchester, in 1970. Robbie Robertson produced the album and played guitar, and Band mates Rick Danko, Richard Manuel and Levon Helm also contributed their skills. "Biloxi" is a lovely song filled with longing for a place he believed he might never see again.
Jesse became a Canadian citizen in 1973, gained amnesty in the U.S. in 1977 and settled in Virginia in 2002. He released several albums during the 1970s. However, due to his status as a draft dodger, he was unable to tour in the United States, and became recognized primarily as a songwriter. His work has been covered by numerous artists, including Elvis Costello, Jimmy Buffett, Joan Baez, Rosanne Cash, Jerry Garcia, Fairport Convention, Emmylou Harris, Ronnie Hawkins, Nicolette Larsen, Ted Hawkins, Ian Matthews, and Tom Rush.
Jesse's first appearance in the U.S. was a sold out performance in Burlington Vermont on April 21, 1976. Rolling Stone magazine covered the event and called Jesse "the Greatest Voice of the Decade". He was nominated for the Best Country Male Vocalist award at the Juno Awards of 1990. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers in 2007.
You would think that rookie album would be more valuable than it is in Discogs now that I have my copy it should raise substantially; right?
14) Midnight Rider - The Allman Brothers
Yes I have this is the library in a few versions by the Greg and the brothers. Even got a Willie Nelson cover; but the one in my playlist really is from the Idlewild South album that was put out as a double album with their first album, and called "Beginnings"
15) I'll Be Here At Closing Time - J.D. Souther
This is one of my favorite J.D.'s songs; the version I'm listening to is from "Natural History" but I think the first time I ever heard the song was on Music Fog's YouTube channel:
