DBT #379 Tequila

Ok so I've done three Whiskey playlists, two Beer playlists, and recently my first Wine playlist; so Tequila made sense.  I did not venture into Margaritas because I think that it should probably be a boat drink playlist.  I love this playlist because it made me actually go buy some new songs for the library; and of course I kept it as eclectic as normal.. ha.  Yep I have Rock 'n Roll legends next to Country ones, and even folk musicians sing about their tequila experience.  Plus, I just rolled through a Bandcamp search to find some rarer songs and artists I have never heard before.

1) Tequila and Me - Greg Brown & Ferron

Recorded at a Kate Wolf Folk Fest, this is such a classic cover of Kate's song.

2) Tequila & Me - Kate Wolf and the Wildwood Flower

I'm going to consider the 1976 release "Back Roads" her debut Rookie Debut release.  The male/female voices are reversed from the previous cover, and much more folky.  Yes I repeat two songs in this playlist because I love the contrast from the original to the cover. (1976 oh yes I'm thinking along the lines on the next 50th Anniversary post)

It sure is Dr. Thorn.  You know given a studio or a stripped down live version to share, it's going to be the later if it has decent sound.

Yes, my library was light in songs and I knew there were more "COUNTRY" songs about the subject.  I went to iMusic Store searched tequila, sorted it for most popular and picked a few that I would want to listen a few time.  You know I love duets.  It's a very nice song that yes is over 14 years old and I'm just listening to it for the first time.  "Good Music Never Expires"

I learned an invaluable lesson while learning to play this song on guitar in the 70's.  Two fingers are plenty for a G chord, and it opens up the other to fingers to play cool melodies and transitions.  I didn't go for the live videos, because I think the album Desperado was a master piece engineered by Glyn Johns.

Twin Cities rocker helps shake you senses.

Woah... here's an early version of the song that gives you the bones of a rocker.

Here's the start of our second pairing of original songwriter and cover.  Since I was a huge Johnny and Edgar Winter fan growing up, how do I not collect a few Rick Derringer albums? Yes I have three of them by now.  Ha, this is the most acoustic song on the All American Boy album.

This cut is from his "Still Alive and Well" album that Rick also wrote the title track.  Dang, this has to be my most favorite album Johnny put out.  This is a great contrast to Rick's release.

9) Tequila Little Time - Jon Pardi

Another iTune search, so don't judge me if Jon Pardi is a redneck MAGA or NOT I didn't take the time to find out ... I was lured in by the horns and I think it's a great song; so I paid $1.29 for it.

Now I'm absolutely floored I bought this song thinking it was like a Taylor Swift pop club dance song, only to find it was a Grammy winning "COUNTRY" song.  Dang, it's a good song; but country to me is not this song. Yes, it was another iTunes purchase.

11) Tequila (Bonus) - The Pretenders

Truly had to look twice it this was the same Pretenders I knew from the late 70's; plus I had no idea they had a woman in the band.  It was a bonus track on a 1984 album "Learning to Crawl" so I put it on my wishlist to have one in the collection.  Yes this is the last one I bought from my iTunes shopping.

Ok I had to give Bandcamp a try on searches and found two that I wanted to continue to listen to.  One from a Canadian Country artist and one from over in Europe.  Sweet I bet you know which is which by looking at this song cover.  Now since this is a 2019 release, I can not find it anywhere but Bandcamp.  I have found that Danita is now part of a country duo "Sugar & Spice"  It looks like I have some one new music to listen to since I bought the 5 singles they have on Bandcamp.  Right, so I added the song to YouTube for you all to hear in the playlist below, knowing if Danita does want it taken down; she'll let me know.

I wonder if Steve is watching the Cubs in heaven?  This fun song on "Affordable Art" was a co-write with John Prine, and I love putting these playlist together when they get me in the backroom and import some awesome music.  Of course, I didn't stop at one song from the vinyl.

A little ditty from a Bandcamp search... love the island groove.

I love this little lyric video that Fika Recordings put out... now who's the old guy.

Yes I have the Ventures' Tequila in the back room, but Chris's cover is a perfect acoustic way to end this playlist.  So I love the percussion that's on the studio..... BUT

When I saw there was a video of him solo too; this is a must for guitarist to watch.  Not terribly complicated and so much fun to watch.

Now I hope you took a shot every time you read the word tequila.  Ha.
