DBT #433 Satisfied

Well here's hoping after 430+ editions, that there are some Satisfied music blog readers out in this blogosphere.   After highlighting Hope Waits' "I'll Be Satisfied" in the Monday Morning Song "Ring Them Bells", I wondered could I make a Dave's Dozen songs on Satisfied.  Well I did but it took buying two songs on Bandcamp to fill the playlist.  Now with spring teasing us, this playlist now has two round trips while I was chipping branches that have fallen in the last two months.  I love it; so here we go.

Yes, I've said it before but this is truly an all eclectic playlist with six songs I needed to import from the backroom, and two added from Bandcamp.

1) I'll Be Satisfied - Hope Waits

I believe Hope confided in me that the producer Peter Malik found her singing some blues around town in L.A., when he got interested in having her sing to a cover album he had in his head.  She told him not without getting a few of her originals in it too, and "Hope Waits" was born.  After it was released, many noticed her and she appeared on many compilations.

The song came from a 1959 hit by Jackie Wilson... and just for comparison because I do not own this... check it out here... if not the whole song just a touch of it: (No it will not be on the playlist at the end)

Now the woman I so fell into a deep admiration for back in my MySpace period.  She was patient and kind soul to pull back the curtain on her life; and I'm still in touch sometimes.

2) Keep the Customer Satisfied - Simon & Garfunkel

One might say "duh", but when was the last time you listened to this great song.  I love how playlists bring back classics as well as mysterious songs from the collection.

3) Satisfied - Elephant Revival

Here's another gem in the library that I have only played 11 times since it was added back in 2015.

4) I'm Satisfied with You - Jack Scott

I inherited this rock-a-billy classic record from Marv's library, I think.  I don't have it all imported but it was a good excuse to import this kind of sexist song.  Sure there are other great looking star women, but I'm satisfied with you.  Well don't go singing this one around too much.  Amazingly this was out in YouTube!!!  Sounds better than my vinyl import.  Starts slow but hang around.

5) Happy and Satisfied - Toshi Reagon

I inherited this 1999 cd from some old fest cd submissions, and boy I love this song and I imported a few more songs and now I found her in Bandcamp to follow.  Yes, I'm satisfied with it.

6) Still Ain't Satisfied - Robin Flower

I owned her 1982 Flying Fish "Green Sneakers" album, so I picked up her 1979 rookie release "More Than Friends".  This was back while I was still working a day job without as much time for importing as fast as I was buying. (yes still struggling with that, Ha)  Well when it came up in the Discogs search for SATIFIED I fixed that and imported all the songs she sings on.  (sorry while I'm ok with a few instrumentals, I love lyrics and harmony)  Of course how rare these songs are, I figured I would be adding a couple to YouTube for you to listen to. There are other versions of this song; but the instrumentation is incredible to go along with the great singing.  It has to be in the world more often because unfortunately it's still true today.

7) Satisfied Mind - Willie Nelson

This great cover by Willie produced by T. Bone Burnett didn't make it on my Monday Morning Song 4 Pack of Satisfied Mind.  With Willie, you know you get nothing but the finest in the studio.

8) Can't Be Satisfied - Harry Manx

Another cd Harry Manx Road Ragas Live that I inherited from the fest basket of submissions, and it's some great acoustic blues.  Here's an old one from McKinley Morganfield better known as Muddy Waters.  It was the first time I listened to the album, will watch for more music by him.

9) Is My Lord Satisfied with Me - Anna Gordon

If I can play God for a moment, I don't think he's satisfied with a lot Christians that are being out right mean and cruel to the poor and immigrant.  Now this song is on a three record collection of Country Gospel, and mine sounds a little more scratchy than this video from a pristine CD I would assume.  I'm so grateful, surprised, and satisfied to find the song in YouTube.

10) The Earth is Never Satisfied - Ladysmith Black Mambazo

Well unless you understand their language, you would know that this is what it's about.  The label and song are sometimes called The Earth Never Gets Fat too, but when they reissued the album, everything was labeled satisfied

The Earth is Never Satisfied
The earth is never satisfiedThe earth is never satisfiedIt keeps swallowing our men and womenEven our children and our grandparents

11) Never Satisfied - Bianca Grooves

I found four potential songs I thought about buying in Bandcamp to make this a nice Dave's Dozen, and this soulful one won a spot, and boy this 2023 release has some nice soul to it.  I put the rest of the album on my want list for now.

Shoot we only get 27 seconds of her live, but here it is, so since you have a BC link for the studio I'll put an additional longer video in the YT playlist at the end.

12) I'm Satisfied - Polly Cutter

This Bandcamp song intrigued me and I loved the throwback sound, and the cover art sure didn't fit the music.  It said it was a 1975 release originally called "Ohh, I'm Satisfied." So you know I had to find more information about it too.  Discogs had the 45 it was released on, but no art.  There is a Facebook page (last post in 2022), Polly Cutter for a Cause of Women that I find a little confusing, but it lead me back to Discogs to find out she was credited to sing on 9 other records; and she was described as:

Released her only one single, "Ooh, I'm Satisfied" as a solo artist, produced by Jeff Barry in 1975. Recorded the theme pop song, "One Day At A Time", taken from the hit TV series of the same name, originally, entitled, "This Is It". Sang backup behind Eleventh Hour on Eleventh Hour - Hollywood Hot that same year. Discontinued as a solo artist from the pop music field a year later and became a session background singer for Lisa Hartman, The New Ventures and so on. Also provided backing vocals on "All The World Loves A Winner" by the late Papa John Creach, taken from Papa John Creach - Inphasion. Retired in 1979 and departed the music industry.

She had a Farah Fawcett type vibe, as shown from that FB page pictures.

I also that it was weird to see an Wyoming address in the Facebook page, and Google showed it looked like any suburb home with two decent cars and two beat up trucks in the photo.

While I'm not totally satisfied I know the whole story of why some weird Iazawan Enterprises is selling this on Bandcamp, I'm thinking about stopping and just enjoying the find.  I am going to put a picture of the 45 in my song in the library; these two girls eating corn is just weird.

I loved reading all the comments in this video too.
