DBT #440 Passionate Play

Yikes my favorite Adobe Stock photo couple is back, it's been a while since Romance #145.

Steamy as that playlist was; this one is more about passionate moves, plays or actions; and a great reason to put some new music in the library together for a playlist my wife won't immediately in the car.

Here are the covers from recent digital and physical copies added to the library:

And here are the Dave's Dozen songs:

1) Sent Through The Ceiling - Ashtyn Barbaree

Ashtyn is winning awards for Americana Artist of the year in Arkansas, and we linked up in one of the socials, and she gifted me her CD and when you do that; you show up in the blog.
This title track got this list started, and some passion plays are all about starting over.

And I never will forget
Do you remember me?
Cause I remember you
I’m starting over
Falling, I’m sent through the ceiling
Can you tell me again?

And while the studio starts with a guitar, here she is on piano.

2) I Feel So Good - Buffalo Rose

Just got back from seeing Buffalo Rose live at the Gibson Community Music Hall in Appleton.  Wow, the are so good.  For some reason I had never bought their 4 song EP released in 2020, pre Margot so the studio version will sound a little different than the live video.  Of course I got video of my most favorite six piece band, here's a link to Green Light.

Sure there are probably better videos of this song but none mean more to me than this one.  A late night private showcase at FARM 2022, our first regional Folk Alliance, and our first time seeing Buffalo Rose.  I feel in love instantly.  Sorry on the video my voice is too loud singing along with them; HA, I suppose I got down in the dirt with them.

3) Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo - Suzi Quatro

Dang... if we have 30 minutes to burn on a trip; we google antique stores and hot score I found four records to buy for $11 total.  I never owned a Suzi Quatro before but seeing she covered this song made me buy it.  A Rick Derringer original covered by Johnny Winter and it's on Edgar Winter White Trash live.  What a fun video I found, now I want more Suzi in the library.  Oh yeah sometimes passion comes a rockin.  Plus, I just found out she was in Happy Days TV Show too.  You know I couldn't help to see if I could find a video:

That song won't be on the playlist at the end... this will.

4) You (Make It All Happen) - Timberline

A recent 1977 vinyl buy from my want list in Discogs, and for the life of me I don't remember why I put in on the list; but I love that I did.  It's a great Poco style sound from the time, and a cut is sure to show up in next year's 50th Anniversary playlist.

5) Don't Give Up On Me - Rodney Crowell

We're going to see Rodney in June at the Moccasin Creek Festival, so I thought I should buy his most recent album.

6) This Car - Connie Kaldor

Metaphorically speaking, Connie is pretty passionate about her car.  Great album I picked up digitally last Bandcamp Friday.

This car has seen me at my best and at my worst This Car
It’s carried me as laughed and it’s carried me when I cursed This Car
stormy snowy weather it’s gone through it all
Any where the road goes and the many ports of call This Car
This car has room enough for me and my guitar This Car
Its never complained about the road and how far This car
Its gone more than 500 ks
Over good bad roads and some sketchy back ways This Car

This car’s a little like my heart
It never gives a F and it’ll always start This Car

Fantastic video to find too... hey it needs more views watch it twice.

7) Fuck Ice - Jillian Rae

Love Jillian being the right kind of Minnesota Nice.  Now go buy it on Bandcamp proceeds are going toward mutual aid.

Hey she got to play it stage too, but because the F word I can't embed it, so go watch it by clicking here.

8) My Uncle Used To Love Me But She Died - The Sweetback Sisters

You know when you buy a 2017 "King of Killing Time" album in 2021 and like it so much you click on their earlier 2009 release "Chicken Ain't Chicken" for your wishlist.  Eventually during a Bandcamp Friday you're going to click on it; and buy it.  That's exactly what happened in March of 2026.   It seems like they have stopped touring according to their Facebook page, but boy I love their music so ladies come up with a third album please.  I had no idea what this song is about and but it sure has some passion in it.  Then I found reading the video description I find out this was a Roger Miller song; geez now it makes sense.  Oh you know I can't stop now, yes I find I own the album that it's on so I'll have to import it.

9) Farm Girl - Ry Cooder

"My Name Is Buddy" was on my wantlist in Discogs, and that's always dangerous.  Unlike record shopping where it's the hunt, Discogs is just more how much do you want to pay for it, and does the person have more than one of your items to reduce shipping costs.  Well they had just posted they added an 80,000 piece collection, so I found 10 items easily and this cd was one of them.  Per Wikipedia:

It was released on March 6, 2007, via Nonesuch Records, serving as the second social-political concept album in a trilogy that began with Chávez Ravine and concluded with I, Flathead.[1]

At the 50th Annual Grammy Awards, the album was nominated for Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album, but lost to Steve Earle's Washington Square Serenade.

Cool eh?  Now doesn't every male have a little passion in their heart for a farm girl?

10) Feels Right - Charlotte Kendrick

Another buy from Discogs, this "North of New York" had one of my favorite MySpace downloaded songs "Yellow" which was the inspiration to Edition no. 57 Colors.  I ended up buying two of her old CD's, and they are a passionate magical walk back to when I first heard her distinctive voice.

11) Lot of Love To Give - Daniel Lanois

"For The Beauty of Wynona" was another Discogs wantlist purchase in that buy with Charlotte, Ry, and Timberline.  Daniel is my all time most favorite producers next to Glyn Johns; this is my first album of his in the library and it did NOT disappoint.  I'll get more.

12) Crystal Closet Queen - Leon Russell

I forget what album I traded my friend for this record, but I got around to importing the Dylan covers and a few more like this song.  Fun way to end a Dave's Dozen of Passion Plays.

Here you go a streamable YouTube playlist link:  (mostly a one click and there you go..)
