DBT #383 Waitress

Look at that... I created an ad for a playlist!

Just back on #381 Working for Living, I shared "The Beautiful Waitress" by Austin Lounge Lizards; and I immediately said this is one of my favorite subjects and I need a playlist.  Well it was haunting me, (not as much as my Haunting playlist coming next week) so I put it together.  I found I had fewer than I wanted, so with a little help from a fellow blogger I found some in my collection and some I wanted to buy.  Of course I added two songs from searching the subject on Bandcamp too.  Now 16 songs strong, we're ready to share; but first a picture.  Gracious, so many great looking women in Adobe Stock photos.  Of course I went for dark brown eyes; I'm sure it would take me two minutes to stutter my way foolishly into saying thank you for anything she would say.

1) The Beautiful Waitress - Austin Lounge Lizards

So sad they think they'll never see her again, but I've been there.

Classic Loudon.

One of my all time favorite songs, and yes it was shared at least two times back in Edition No. 25 and Edition No. 380.  Right so listen to it or I'll share it again.

Ha... I'm a huge collector of Debby's music and this video is weird to have the whole album; but I clicked start at this wonderful song where she finds herself taking after her dad and sitting at the counter of the cafe being served by the waitress.

A very unique and wonderful song for this playlist.

While you may not get it immediately, this song was written by Siri Undlin (Humbird) after she worked a double shift as a waitress at a pizza place.

Love that Boats & Bluegrass recorded this video now five years ago.

Another favorite that instantly came to mind and yes has graced the blog before in DBT #85 Cooking. RIP Bill you were a legend.

Pretty sure Tom has other waitress references, but this was the song I remembered the best.

Thanks to my blogger friend Rol for having this one on his list.  I didn't know it as well as my wife does, because I think she memorized "For the Roses" in her youth.  Not sure why the waitresses were talking about ZOMBIES?

Rol had this song in his list and when I heard it, it had to be in my library so I bought the song in iTunes.  Boy this video was cool, I'm now a new subscriber.

Now I don't normally post covers, but this one came up in the search and I was totally impressed; not sure why their channel is also named Tables Waiting.

11) Highway Cafe - Kinky Friedman

Oh Kinky rebuttals all the love of waitresses by telling this sad story.

I actually have the "Sold American" version in my playlist, but hey there is a song you can buy on Bandcamp and here's a video from ACL.

12) The Waitress - Jonathan Byrd

While I have numerous songs from Jonathan, it took me to search Bandcamp to find this gem.  He must have loved to song so much he named the album after it.  You know this does embody my love too so here are all the lyrics to the song.  Yes I've even used it in a reel to promote this playlist.

She's pretty. She's amazing. I think I'm in love with her. I love the way she smiles at me over breakfast.
She's pretty. She's amazing. I love the way she calls me "Sir." She really listens to me. She's my waitress.

She's my waitress, if I need a cup of coffee. She's my waitress, if I want a slice of pie. She's my waitress. She'll come back until I've had enough.
She's my waitress, from her orthopedic shoes, she's my waitress, up to the chewing gum she chews. She's my waitress. She's the waitress I love.

She's pretty. She's amazing. Hey though she's had a brush with the law, it's been a while since her last arrest.
She's pretty. She's amazing. Everybody's got their little flaw. She's rehabilitated now. She's my waitress.

She's my waitress, oh she's poppin' percosets. She's my waitress, yes, and smokin' cigarettes. She's my waitress. Lord knows, that morning crowd is tough.
She's my waitress, from her orthopedic shoes, she's my waitress, up to the chewing gum she chews. She's my waitress. She's the waitress I love.

She's my waitress. Her brother's name is Billy. She's my waitress. You know he'd probably beat me silly (She's my waitress) if he knew what I was thinking of.
She's my waitress, yes and maybe someday if she's my waitress, I'll have the nerve to say, "Oh, waitress, you're the waitress I love."

Right, usually I've been married; but I likely wouldn't have the nerve.

You know I should do a bucket list list again, because for as often as I run into his music; I've never seen him live and I've only heard great things about him from friends.

Why I bought this song only from Davie's album in 2009 is beyond me, but I love it; yet she is a mystery to me as much as this dead Facebook Page.

14) This Lady - Dave Zeman

Yes... my love of waitresses did get into at least one song I wrote.  Hey I also practice what I preach, in my Bandcamp post it has lyrics and a description:

Written after I totally was in awe about a woman I saw hostess at the Cheesecake Factory in Jacksonville FL. We were on Christmas vacation, and while the family was talking I was observing. I am an unabashed flirt, but nothing ever comes from it, because I'm as loyal as a dog who loves dirt. That's a line I'll use some day, but it's true. This Lady's story is likely not true, but she was a carved beauty all in black, and I watched her more than the tv's strategically placed through out the restaurant. ;-)

Dressed all in black for a job in the city
She’s a lady who knows she’s a carved beauty
It doesn’t stop her from being a warm soul
This lady knows how to smile to the boys.

And when she tells you you’re table’s ready
You’d rather say that’s ok just come back
She’ll just smile and say come along Davey
You can tease your waitress, yep it’s Beth.

It wasn’t long ago that she was a mess
With jerk and a half and little to much meth
Now she loves that face she sees in the mirror
There’s no more tears running down her long neck.

And when she tells you you’re table’s ready
You’d rather say that’s ok just come back
She’ll just smile and say come along Timmy
You can tease your waitress, yep it’s Cath.

She pats the back of the guy with table 9
Smiles to the old fart who’s got that glossy shine
Check’s her device for the next open table
And knows she’s watched more than the local cable.

And when she tells you you’re table’s ready
You’d rather say that’s ok just come back
She’ll just smile and say come along Terry
You can tease your waitress, yep it’s Jacq.

Yikes I thought for sure I would be adding this to YouTube, but in 2009 I posted the song solo and wow I referenced Jonathan Byrd's Waitress song.. so why the heck wasn't it in my digital library.  Take it for what it is, but this is what I wrote in the video description:

Ok... tonight I had a few minutes and I was inspired to record my "This Lady" which is a tip of the hat to all those waitress and hostess's that I've teased in my days. I do take after my old man, but you know I love them all tremendously ... ok inspiration came from Jonathan Byrd's The Waitress... my first video posted as a response. If you look closely my nipples are hard... HA... (I stole that from Billy Crystal)

15) Waitress, Waitress - The Kody Norris Show

One final new song from a Bandcamp search.  While I take bluegrass in small amounts, I think I'll buy more of this group in the future.

Looks like their fiddle player is also a pretty good guitarist.

16) Navajo Rug - Ian Tyson

So this playlist ended up having three of my top 100 favorite songs.  (why 100? just trying to be fair) I actually stopped the playlist at 15 and went upstairs to make supper; brain fart flash and I was back downstairs adding this song.  (While his song is not in Bandcamp, check out this great cover).

Here's an throwback video getting Ian introduced by Jerry Jeff Walker. (btw I shared Ian's cowboy music with my ten year senior brother, and this song was his favorite; yep we Schipper's are romantics by nature)

So grab you Navajo rug, lay with your favorite waitress and give a listen to the One Click playlist in YouTube.
