DBT #400 Four something

This blog started back when I was doing doing a radio show called Dave's Basement Tracks on the coolest internet radio app Ocooch Mountain Radio.  I loved the intro video that included my voice over my cover of "St. James Infirmary"  Maybe, just maybe, I'll be back on the radio again. It was fun though then it would be a job where I'd have to hit my weekly timings.  Ha, I'm old and relaxed now.  Have a listen to the minute intro; sure makes you want MORE!

The pandemic helped kill the station, and would have needed a big infusion of Advertisers or Sponsors to pay for the licensing fees.  So the blog did have forty posts about the playlists from the radio show before it officially became a music blog dedicated ONLY to music I have in the library (right the radio show would venture into the OMR's library which I didn't always own).

Wow looking back to the first post, no theme, the subject all about me, and no I couldn't maintain having a Dylan cover to start every playlist post.  The Logo had been established for the radio show and it was created by my son and his finance, with help from Linda at WinCraft.  The post includes friends I hold dearly, Sarah Morris, Luke Callen, Sage Christie (formerly Siena), and Natalie Gelman.  You know I said I'll keep this blog alive if I get traffic.  You all have given me enough love to keep the fire going.  April 24, 2021 to Nov. 25, 2025 or 1,679 days and 400 editions; nearly one every fourth day.  Pretty cool.

Now this post wasn't supposed to be about history, we'll have more time for that and likely the 500th post (likely by the end of 2026) would be a better time to handle that information.  So 400th edition turned to songs about Four and then Forty, and then I remembered Stan Rogers 45 Years, so two playlists in a row we're ending the list with a Stan Rogers song while I strive to keep his music alive.  So let's listen to some music:

I have eight versions of this song in my library, even one from Harry Belafonte!  I choose Neil on the Last Waltz, and why not.  Right if you look on the 3 vinyls in your library it's not on the record, it was ultimately released on the 40th Anniversary so it really made double sense to include it here.

2) Four Legs Good, Two Legs Bad - Christine Kane

Dang, if I get an opportunity to put this song into a playlist I do.  It made the Cats playlist back in Edition no. 174.  This video gets you the story too!

3) A Pirate Looks at Forty - Jimmy Buffett

One of my all time favorite Buffett songs, here with a few guitar pickers and Jimmy is well past 40.

4) Four Wheels - The Two Tracks

I picked up their vinyl when they played the Great River Folk Fest.

5) Four Rode By - Fourtold (Steve Gillette, Cindy Mangsen, Michael Smith, & Ann Hills)

Four Folk Legends.

6) Four Walls of Raiford - Yonder Mountain String Band

An artist friend of mine gifted me this great cover song.

7) Fourth Time Around - Yo La Tengo

Ha in keeping with my old rules, this Bob Dylan cover song should have lead off the playlist.

8) These Four Walls - Alicia Stockman

Bought this fine album in Bandcamp back in 2022.

9) Forty Years - Johnsmith

Here's John's anniversary song and story about meeting his wife in Boulder.

10) No One Sings for the Four of Clubs - Danny Schmidt

Fitting that Danny follows his friend John.  He describes the song as:

No One Sings For The Four Of Clubs is about GRIEVANCE. It’s not about legitimizing the grievance, and it’s certainly not about tolerating inappropriate and destructive actions as acceptable responses to grievance, legitimate or otherwise. But it’s about listening and validating that the grievance is being felt, on empathetic grounds, but also on pragmatic grounds . . .

Here he is solo...

11) Four In The Morning - Dan Reeder

Now for something unusual; ha of course it's Dan it usually is.

12) Forty Fishermen - Norah Rendell

Boy I miss hearing new stuff from Norah, she's been raising kids and running the Celtic Junction Arts Center in St. Paul.  Currenty this song is not available in YouTube for the playlist that follows at the end.  If I fix that, I'll remove this sentence.

13) Four Years of Chance - Margo Price

I have a few of Margo's songs in the library.

14) Four Chambers - Jes Raymond

I picked up this CD when Jess played the Trempealeau Hotel.

15) Forty Years Old and I'm Living In My Mom's Garage - Austin Lounge Lizards

Yep when ALL come up in my search, I try to fit them in.  Now I'm over sixty and posting blogs from my basement.

16) 45 Years - Stan Rogers

Ah... so sweet and sad since he died way too soon.

And here's the One Click YouTube playlist
