DBT #421 Title Tracks Vol II - Lady Friends
Recently I put together Title Tracks Volume I of albums recently added to my digital library, and immediately I knew this would be a fun eclectic way to listen to the library. I browsed the whole library and found 48 songs that I would want to listen to many times; and then broke them into Legends 1, Legends 2, Lady Friends, and Eclectic Mix. The only rules was an artist could only appear once, yes John Denver named 80% of his albums after a song on the album. Which one to share first? Oh come on, Ladies first; I'm a gentlemen. I will come back and add links to the other posts as I add them to the blog.
1) Pharmakon - Humbird
Ok there will be varying degrees of "Friendship" in this list, but Siri has played our house concert series three times and we've seen her play live in over 14 different venues. Plus I first bought this album digitally and now own it on vinyl too.
We didn't see her at the Dakota in 2019 though, and yes while I love her band; she is so good solo.
2) Boomerrang Town - Jaimee Harris
Ok if you consider her answering a comment of mine in IG or her acknowledging finding and loving her DBT Album Review friends, well then she belongs on this list. I'm kind of sure that we'll share a conversation next time I see her in a concert either solo or with Mary Gauthier.
Right, if I can get a solo video to contrast to the studio, that's what I'm going to share in this playlist. Strange to see Jaimee without her red heart sunglasses, but it would be inside I guess.
3) Poor Pretender - Long Mama
Kat is such a cool soul from the Milwaukee area, now I just said I would do only live videos; but Kat's Poor Pretender video is an award winning one that I love so I can break my own rules. Plus you get a bonus live one since it's one of MY Around Town Videos.
I just loves when she kicks stuff around.
4) The Moon is an Ashtray - Miss Tess
I first met Tess when I attended a songwriter class of hers, and then she almost played our house concert series and then the pandemic hit and it was cancelled. The moon album is awesome.
Boy the Club Passim is on my bucket list, but I don't see us in the Boston area any time soo.
5) Nothing Else Matters - Phoebe Hunt
Maybe stretching friends here again, but we did have a nice talk at Rocky Mountain Folks Fest when she was signing my record. Yes I've followed her a lot even on my older blog "The Zemmy Show" Sorry no Bandcamp link but her album is her solo so this is what it sounds like:
And for contrast, here's Lindsay Lou (yes she's played Bluff View) with Phoebe Hunt. Lindsay covered it on her album "Queen of Time" (of course I own that too).
6) Average Jane - Sara Morgan
Right 2025 will go down as the first year I saw Sara live since she stopped up at my old place of work, WinCraft, to see were her merchandise was being produced. Yes I saw her and Kelly Hunt and it's very well documented in the blog, but if I haven't said she's such a fun person to hang with... she is; with a better than average sense of humor. Since she's not on Bandcamp, here's her countrified studio version:
And a more stripped down video from a roof top:
7) Burn The Witch - Sara Peacock
Well this video got her booked to play the Bluff View after she emailed about playing our series.
And here's proof she played it... she was such a cool person to hang with for a few days too.
8) Sunshine in the Rain - Songa
Such good people I first met through the Great River Folk Fest Songwriting Contest; and since I've really have a deep appreciation for these two. (Sherry and Mario) Sherry Friedel sings lead so I put it in with the ladies.
9) Halfway to Houston - Susan Werner
I'm going to say because Susan remembered me as Great River Folk Fest chair when I met up with her at FARM, I'll check her into the Lady friend column. This title track was on an album that I reviewed (I know and know that I need to do more of those). You know... she's the best talent to book, her recorded music is good, but she's an entertainer and can capture an audience.
10) All Those Days of Drinking Dust - Tiffany Williams
I know someday I'll get a chance to see this lady, for now we're just digital friends. Yes I did review her whole album too.
Hope you have some tissues.
11) When It All Goes Down - Sarah King
I'm not sure how this album didn't get into my Dave's Dozen Top 2025 Albums. I got to know Sarah as she stayed over the year she won the Great River Folk Fest and then the year she played as a result of winning. She can play a dark brooding song, but don't let that fool you; she's a sweetheart.
She can sure rock it by herself live too.
12) Big Sky Country - Sofia Talvik
Sofia is my Swedish siren who played the Bluff View and yes we've kept in touch and saw her again last spring up at the Big River Theatre. She and her husband are filled with so many stories of places in Europe that I'll never visit, but this song is about her discovery of our western US during her tours.
It's such a great song, kind of like when John Denver would capture the life of the surroundings in song.
So like I said earlier I will link this post to my next volumes, but if you are the type that likes a one click playlist to listen or stream the songs above, here is your link to click or the picture works too.
