Dave's Music Edition #7 Digital Friends
If edition #6 was the pressed flesh friends, let's dive deep into what I will call them Digital Friends. People either befriended in social media or have conversed that they just might remember me.
First up is a recent purchase of Sam Robbins, his song "Say Amen" immediately hit me during the GRFF Songwriting Contest, and just like that he released a recording last week and I got the whole thing, but here's "Say Amen" a political statement done so understated that you can feel the love in every verse. The CD is well written and produced, though I wonder maybe Sam has been dating a lot, so if we see him with Taylor Swift we'll know where his material is coming from.

I almost called this blog "New Friends" but then I saw this recent purchase of Emme Packer's pre-release CD. I fell in love with her music in MySpace and we went back and forth. She probably wasn't sure who this guy from WI was talking to her about stuff like religion and other stuff; but I did buy her music from her directly and now after 10 years she's back with a recording.
I wouldn't put Tara Dente on a very close digital friend (yet), but she did acknowledge my last shout out in a previous and I really like her music and will be sure to keep following her.

Frank Critelli and I quickly hit it off sometime during one of my Bandcamp buying spree. Just a bit younger than me the trio The Bargain is my kind of sound, rich Americana with roots in electric folk 70's sound. Here's a recent single of theirs:
I likely have mentioned Jaspar Lepak before but since I followed her I ran into this very cool format of a pod cast video series. Mother Banjo talking to artists about a back catalog release. They talked about how Jaspar recorded this during a stay in South Africa. (Flashback Friday update, I would have to move Jaspar and Mother Banjo officially off my digital list. I looked over my shoulder at Storyhill Fest and said, "Oh my that's Jaspar Lepak" Just like if I was seeing say Natalie Portman, ha. We had chance to meet her husband and daughter too. Then we ran into her and Ellen Stanley who is Mother Banjo at FARM)
Of course I have to share the song she recorded about SNOW while in South Africa.. ha.

I'm not shy to tell people that I'm Christian and try to tell them we aren't all super judgmental and overly conservative. I also don't care a lot for the pop / rock Christian music but there are some that are high quality in writing and acoustic instruments. Carolyn Arends is that artist, and I feel lucky we've corresponded over the years; but why should it. She's such a nice person, so glad my sister Carol introduced me to her music a long, long time ago.
FLASHBACK Friday video added: (right and I'm not digital friends with Amy Grant)
John Statz is related to my cousin Vicki, but that's not why he's here. I think we linked up over the house concert series. He's a talented artist located now out of CO, but has midwest in his roots.
FLASHBACK Friday video added:
Lissa Schneckenburger will likely show up in many of these music editions, and one day she'll move out of Digital to Real Friend, here's hoping and here's a hugely clever acoustic cover of a rap song.
FLASHBACK Friday video added: (how the heck hadn't I seen this before... Lissa is truly a spirit that brings me joy to watch and listen to perform.)
Chuck Brodsky has a rich library of music but my favorite songs from him is his baseball songs. Like "Letters in Dirt" that document early racism and kids and dad's trying to cope and understand it in the stands.
FLASHBACK Friday video added:
Last spot has to be another MySpace friend that not only has stuck with me over the years, I'm even friends with her mother. Samantha Farrell I hear she had a new single coming out so I waited to publish this blog until then. So outside of my all time favorite "Shake" this is one I'm always drawn to when she comes to mind, and you get a bonus song with Sam's release.
And here is her new sultry single, "Used to think I loved you"
Now for FLASHBACK Friday, here is the ONE Click playlist for the songs included above:
Speaking of digital friends, I'm not sure if I will ever run into my friend English friend Dave Franklin who writes a great music blog called "Dancing about Architecture" and recently talked about this blog and the Songwriting contest. Thanks Dave
